What is the meaning of life?
Does life have a meaning at all?
If you are asking me such a question, then your life doesn’t have it. That’s how my university teacher of philosophy used to joke in response to this question. But what if to speak seriously?
What is the meaning of life? Can this question be answered at all?
This question can be answered. It can be answered from many points of view. Religion, philosophy, psychology, history, politics, magic, astrology.
But this series is called Science Talks so let’s try to answer this question from the scientific point of view.
What is the meaning of life? Human life, I mean? Apparently, if there is something very special about human beings something that makes us very different from the rest of other species… then this unique thing can be considered if not as the meaning of our life but at least as the justification why we appeared here.
So, what is that very thing?
Is it the ability to make love? Of course, it’s not. Other animals do it either!
Is it the ability to feel the love? It’s not. Because other animals feel love too.
Then what’s it then?
Whatever we look at, other species have it too.
Nevertheless, there is one thing. This thing is our big head. Massive. Probably too massive for our body. Other species do not have it so big as we do.
This big, massive head makes a woman unable to give birth without the help of others. This is against every law of evolution! But still, it is what it is.
So, our head (or what’s inside it) makes human beings so special. Probably it’s the reason (or one of the reasons) why nature created us. There’s everything in this world even without us except for this (на голову покажу).
Love your head. Respect your head. Take care of your head. Use your head. Not only for eating.
